Campervan Hire Melbourne: Picking Up in Ringwood

Melbourne spreads outward in every direction and the depot sits on the eastern edge of that spread. The Great Ocean Road is on the far side of the city, which shapes your first morning.

The depot at Ringwood

Pickup is at 45 Bond St, Ringwood VIC 3134, a suburban centre on the Maroondah Highway where the Eastern Freeway runs out. It is an easy drive from the airport if you dodge the Bolte Bridge approach.

Book campervan hire Melbourne before you arrive, then walk the yard with staff so the vehicle you are handed matches the class you asked for.

Crossing the city to the west

The Great Ocean Road begins at Torquay, on the opposite side of Port Phillip Bay. Reaching it from Ringwood means a full traverse of the metropolitan area, and the tollway is the sane choice outside peak.

If you can, arrange pickup for a weekend morning or take the ring road around the northern suburbs. Both avoid most of the stop-start traffic through the inner city.

    • Take the ring road, not the river
    • Fuel before Torquay, not in it

    Trams and hook turns

Central Melbourne shares the road with trams, and some intersections require a hook turn, where you wait on the left before swinging right. Drive in the grid only if you must.

Leave the vehicle in a suburb and use trains or trams. Parking in the inner ring is restricted and a tall vehicle will not fit most car parks.

      What the branch holds

Vehicle categories vary between branches and change with the fleet, so treat a model name as a question rather than a promise. Confirm berths, bedding and transmission when you enquire, then inspect the vehicle at pickup.

A four-wheel-drive camper is worth considering mainly if the high country or the beaches are on your route, not for a long sealed coastal run.

        Note

CityLink and EastLink are toll roads, so sort the toll account first.

        Questions about hiring here

How long does it take to reach the Great Ocean Road?

Travel time depends on traffic and your chosen route. Check current conditions and allow for stops.

Do I need a car in central Melbourne?

No. Trams and trains cover the centre well, and parking a campervan is more trouble than it saves.

Can I return the vehicle to a different branch?

One-way hires may be available. Ask the operator about availability and any applicable fee before booking.
